Temporary Anchorage Devices for Extra Strength & Stability
Temporary anchorage devices (TADs) are one of the most recent innovations in orthodontic treatment, reducing the need for elastics, headgear and, in some cases, surgery.
TADs can eliminate the need to use teeth as anchors and can also be used to stabilize a tooth that's being used as an anchor. These incredible orthodontic devices provide a strong and stable base for applying force that previously could not have been achieved through the use of other orthodontic means.
Although back teeth are typically used as orthodontic anchors around which to move other teeth, sometimes this simply isn't possible. If there is not a stable enough tooth to anchor to or if the force of your braces begins to move the anchor tooth, TADs can help.
In many cases, use of TADs has eliminated the need for tooth extractions and even orthognathic (jaw) surgery.
